Vol. 373 No. 2

Written Answers. - Donaghmore (Limerick) School.

283.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding Donaghmore national school, County Limerick.

284.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the severe overcrowding in Donaghmore national school, County Limerick; if her attention has further been drawn to the fact that the enrolment continues to increase; if she will expedite the provision of a new school which was recommended by her departmental inspector in 1983; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

306.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that there has been a long delay in having detailed design plans finalised for Donaghmore national school, County Limerick; when these will be finalised; and if she will expedite this matter in view of the long delay to date.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 283, 284 and 306 together. Donaghmore national school, County Limerick has three teachers. Classes are accommodated in two permanent classrooms and one prefabricated classroom. Following the usual title investigation in respect of a site offered by the school authorities for a new school building, sketch plans for such building were approved in September 1986. Agreement was reached in February 1987 on a suitable local contribution towards the project costs, resulting in formal grant sanction for the project being issued during the following month. Because, however, of the extent to which my Department's 1987 capital allocation for the national schools building programme had already been committed prior to my assuming office, rescheduling must inevitably occur in the processing of other projects. I find that I am not likely to be in a position to advance significantly the Donaghmore project during the balance of the current financial year. My Department's Primary Building Branch will, however, keep in touch with the school authorities regarding the further processing of their proposals.
