Vol. 373 No. 2

Written Answers. - Adult Education Grant-Aid.

295.

asked the Minister for Education the total amount of the grants-in-aid for the funding of voluntary bodies concerned with adult education provided in the financial year 1986, the corresponding amount in 1987 being £157,000; and the amount in the January 1987 Estimtes prepared by the previous Government.

The total amount of grants-in-aid paid by my Department in 1986 to voluntary bodies involved in adult education was £212,500. The corresponding provision included in the Estimates for the Public Services 1987, published by the previous Government was £227,500.

296.

asked the Minister for Education the amount provided in the 1987 Estimates of UCC for adult education, showing separately the amount for pay and non-pay; the amount provided in 1986; and the amount provided in the Estimates by the former Government in January, 1987.

The Estimates for the Public Services provided for a block grant-in-aid to the Higher Education Authority which in turn allocates block grants-in-aid to the institution operating under its aegis. It is a matter for the institutions concerned to make specific financial allocations from these grants to fund the various faculties and education activities under their control.
