Vol. 373 No. 2

Written Answers. - Employment of Lifeguards.

304.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the growing concern of parents because of lack of Irish-speaking lifeguards at Irish colleges' beach outings and that the comhchiste of the colleges state that they will not hire English-speaking lifeguards; if she will take action to protect the children's lives; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The employment of lifeguards is a matter for each individual Irish College. The Department has advised Comhchoiste Náisiúnta na gColáistí Samhraidh that each college should ensure that adequate care is taken for the safety of the pupils, especially on roads, in the sea and in swimming pools.
