Vol. 373 No. 2

Written Answers. - Brailled Versions of Examination Papers.

308.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the concern of parents of blind children who are sitting the leaving certificate examination this year in view of the fact that her Department will not allow those blind children using the Braille system to have a choice of honours or pass papers on the day; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

309.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the discriminatory position regarding blind students for the leaving certificate whereby they are not afforded the choice of papers on the day, in line with that afforded to the rest of students sitting for the leaving certificate; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 308 and 309 together. This matter has been brought to my attention and my Department has made arrangements to prepare brailled versions of both ordinary and higher levels of the leaving certificate examination papers where they have been requested by the school authorities concerned.
