Vol. 373 No. 2

Written Answers. - Criminality of Homosexuality.

54.

asked the Minister for Justice if a re-examination of the law dealing with the criminality of homosexuality is in progress in his Department; if his attention has been drawn to the recent tape produced by the Veritas Organisation advocating that certain aspects of the criminal law should not longer apply to homosexuality; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the tape-recording referred to by the Deputy, which, I understand, relates to the AIDS problem. The statutory provisions whereby certain homosexual acts constitute criminal offences are under consideration at present by the European Court of Human Rights. In the circumstances I do not propose to make any comment regarding any action that might be taken in relation to those statutory provisions.
