Vol. 373 No. 2

Written Answers. - Fishing Limits.

99.

asked the Minister for the Marine the effects which the British Government's extension of territorial rights to 12 miles will have on the rights of Irish fishermen around the coast of Ireland, the UK and Rockall; his views on whether the extension will affect the rights of Irish vessels on routine passage; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The extension by the United Kingdom authorities of their territorial seas to 12 miles has no bearing on fishing limits or the rights enjoyed by Irish fishermen in Irish or United Kingdom waters as enshrined in the Common Fisheries Policy agreed in January 1983. The rights of Irish vessels on routine passage are not affected in any way either.
