Vol. 373 No. 4

Written Answers. - Return of Property.

63.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will make a statement on the circumstances in which property was taken from the home of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 10 by the Garda Síochána and not yet returned.

The Garda authorities have informed me that the item referred to in the question was one of a number of items taken possession of by the Garda Síochána when they searched a house on 3 May 1987 on foot of a search warrant. Certain items were identified by the gardaí as having been stolen and charges have been preferred in respect of these. The property referred to in the question was retained by the gardaí while they carried out a check on ownership and was returned on 14 May. One further item of property is still retained by the gardaí to enable them to carry out a check of a similar nature.
