Vol. 373 No. 6

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefit.

55.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if disability benefit will now be restored to a person (details supplied) in County Dublin who had payment disallowed to him for failing to attend a medical referee on the 13 May 1987, having regard to the reasonable excuse furnished by the person concerned and the medical evidence which he submitted as to his condition; if the decision will be reviewed; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The person concerned claimed disability benefit from 11 July 1986 and was paid to 22 May 1987.

He did not attend for examination by a medical referee of the Department on 13 May 1987, and as a result payment of benefit was disallowed for the statutory period of nine weeks. He has submitted an explanation for his failure to attend which has been accepted as showing good cause for his non-attendence for examination.

Payment of benefit has now been restored and all benefit due has been issued to 5 June 1987, the date of the latest medical evidence received.
