Vol. 373 No. 10

Written Answers. - County Carlow Hospital Services.

77.

asked the Minister for Health if, he will confirm that, there are now only 20 acute beds available to general practitioners in the County Carlow area; if this is adequate for the immediate needs of the population dependent on hospital services; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The provision of general hospital services is organised on the basis of health board areas rather than individual counties, and an adequate level of acute general hospital services will continue to be provided for the county Carlow area in St. Luke's General Hospital, Kilkenny, Carlow District Hospital, which has a total of 26 beds, will continue to provide the county with support hospital services.
