Vol. 373 No. 12

Written Answers. - Irish Produced Foods.

50.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will meet those involved in the supermarket and the retail grocery trade to encourage them to stock up with Irish produced foods; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department is already in contact with the retail trade with a view to giving the maximum encouragement to the sale of Irish produced foods. The efforts being made by the Department to develop the food industry will, of course, contribute towards achieving increased sales of Irish foods on the home market by making a greater range and variety of such products available. It is only by this means and by improved presentation and marketing at competitive prices that an increased share of the market can be secured and held in the long term.
