Vol. 373 No. 12

Written Answers. - Orchard Planting.

51.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food in view of the EC grants for orchard plantings the way in which many growers have taken up the option to replant; the acreage which will be sown this year; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Investment in the replanting of apple orchards has been included in five farm plans drawn up under the farm improvement programme. The total area involved is 48 acres. As farm improvement plans have a minimum duration of two years, I am unable to say how much of the 48 acres will be replanted this year.
