Vol. 374 No. 1

Written Answers. - Senior Citizen Housing.

211.

asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the demand for senior citizen housing in Dublin Corporation's J housing area and in particular in the lower Ballyfermot area, Dublin 10; if, in the circumstances, he will give approval to Dublin Corporation, as requested, for the erection of senior citizen accommodation on a site at Sarsfield Road, Dublin 10; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

While I am aware that Dublin Corporation claim a general need for senior citizens' accommodation in their area, the approval of such schemes proposed by the corporation must have regard to the availability of capital for the local authority housing programme nationally and the extent and urgency of housing needs in Dublin relative to those in other areas.

The corporation were requested to furnish additional information in relation to their proposed scheme of senior citizen housing at Sarsfield Road, Dublin 10, and this is awaited.
