Vol. 374 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Defence Forces Bank Escort Duties.

17.

asked the Minister for Defence the reason for the delay in issuing payments due to members of the Defence Forces employed on bank escort duties; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

(Limerick West): I am not aware of any delays in payments of all allowances due under regulations to members of the Defence Forces in respect of their employment on bank escort duties.

Is the Minister aware that I had to write to his Department on a number of occasions following complaints about long delays in the payment of moneys due to members engaged in this duty? Bearing in mind that hardship has been caused to some people I appeal to him to investigate the matter further.

(Limerick West): I will be happy to investigate the matter further but I have no doubt that the Deputy has received a reply from my Department giving him details of the position.

I have not received a reply and I was hoping to get the information today.

(Limerick West): I will have the matter further considered.

We must now move on to deal with questions nominated for priority.
