Vol. 374 No. 8

Written Answers. - Defence Force Pension.

20.

asked the Minister for Defence if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the Defence Force pension payable to a person (details supplied) in County Dublin has been reduced; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Limerick West): The Defence Forces (pensions) schemes provide for the payment of an additional increment to a soldier whose pensionable service is 22 years or more. In the case of a soldier discharged from the Defence Forces before 1 August 1978 this increment ceases to be payable when he reaches 70 years of age or becomes otherwise entitled to a retirement pension from the Department of Social Welfare. The person indicated by the Deputy reached 70 years of age on 21 January 1987 and therefore the additional increment ceased to be paid to him from that date.
