Vol. 374 No. 8

Written Answers. - Department's Properties.

36.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the buildings and sites in the ownership of his Department; the locations of same; if they are at present in use by his Department; if not, the use which is proposed for them; when it is envisaged to utilise the site or building; the proposals, if any, there are to dispose of the buildings or sites; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Title of property owned by the State, which is occupied by my Department as office accommodation at home and abroad and as residential accommodation for diplomatic staff abroad, is vested in the Commissioners for Public Works.

The question of the disposal of some of these properties is currently under consideration.

Thirteen properties used for the activities of Ireland's Bilateral Aid Programme and located in Lesotho, Tanzania and Zambia are owned by my Department. These properties are currently occupied by Irish technical assistance personnel employed on bilateral aid projects. When the projects have been completed and the staff withdrawn the buildings will become the property of the Governments of the countries concerned.
