Vol. 374 No. 8

Written Answers. - Fee Payment System.

80.

asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement regarding an estimate of the cost to the State of changing the present system of payment of fee per patient rather than per visit and per prescription; and the proposals, if any, there are to change the present system.

The negotiations with the Irish Medical Organisation on a new method of payment for doctors in the GMS are still at a relatively early stage. It would be premature, therefore, to speculate on their outcome on the lines of the Deputy's question.

I will, however, be pleased to let the Deputy have a more comprehensive statement at the appropriate time.
