Vol. 375 No. 4

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

160.

asked the Minister for the Environment if, in relation to local authority housing his attention has been drawn to a ministerial determination issued on 9 May 1984 in which eight separate items for attention were listed for repair; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that Galway Corporation were unable at the time to attend to the particular case; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a person (details supplied) in County Galway carried out these repairs himself; and if it will be possible at this stage to reimburse this person for the repairs carried out.

The carrying out of works specified in a determination order under section 13 of the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1979, and any matters related thereto are the responsibility of the housing authority concerned.

161.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of local authority houses, either rented or vested, which have had twin wall insulated metal chimneys installed; the steps, if any, he is taking to ensure that each local authority involved has these fire hazards replaced; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The details sought by the Deputy are not available in my Department. The question of replacing the chimneys referred to is a matter for individual housing authorities. Financial assistance towards the carrying out of such work is available under the Department's remedial work scheme.
