Vol. 375 No. 4

Written Answers. - Social Employment Scheme.

203.

asked the Minister for Labour if his attention has been drawn to the sudden curtailment of the social employment scheme (details supplied) under the auspices of local authorities in County Wexford; and if he will take the necessary steps to have the participants reinstated.

Wexford County Council have operated SES projects since May 1985 and their last projects finished on varying dates between May and July 1987. The council made applications for extensions to these projects which would provide places for 400 participants.

The council's applications were considered by the SES monitoring committee but had to be deferred pending the outcome of discussions between my Department and the Irish Congress of Trade Unions. Efforts are being made to finalise the issues involved at the earliest opportunity.
