Vol. 375 No. 4

Written Answers. - Financial Allocations.

206.

asked the Minister for Health if he will indicate the amount of money which has been included in the 1988 Estimates to provide for increases due to the recent wage agreement.

209.

asked the Minister for Health in relation to the recent salary increase agreement, the way in which it will affect his Department's Estimates for 1988; and if he will give details of where this increase is allowed for in the Estimates.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 206 and 209 together.

As set out in the general note published with the Estimates for Public Services (Abridged Version) the 1988 departmental allocations have been prepared, in relation to pay, on the basis of the rates in operation on 1 October last, and the 1988 cost of the further phases of special increases, which are already in the process of being paid (i.e. Clause 3.2 cases under the 1986 Public Service Pay Agreement). A draft agreement on pay in the public service was negotiated as part of the Programme for National Recovery subject to this agreement being ratified by the Irish Congress of Trade Unions. The cost of pay increases arising from the agreement will be reflected in the 1988 Revised Estimates volume, which will be published after the budget.
