Vol. 375 No. 4

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Services Decentralisation.

18.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if a decision has been taken to decentralise social welfare services to Letterkenny, County Donegal; if he will indicate which services are to be transferred; and when it is proposed this will take place.

The Government recently decided on an expansion of the decentralisation programme and this includes the decentralisation of services of my Department to Letterkenny.

The question of the particular services to be transferred is being examined at present. That examination will take into account the services already scheduled for transfer to Sligo under the first phase of the decentralisation programme as well as my declared intention to provide localised services throughout the country. It is not possible at this early stage to say when the decentralisation to Letterkenny will take place as it will depend on how quickly suitable accommodation can be provided.
