Vol. 375 No. 4

Written Answers. - Lump Sum Redundancy Payments.

69.

asked the Minister for Finance with reference to the lump sum redundancy payments referred to in page V of the Estimates for the Public Services, 1988, whether it is envisaged that such sum will include the cost of (a) retirement lump sums, (b) short service gratuities, (c) entitlements under the Redundacy Payments Acts and (d) additional severance gratuities referred to in his reply to Parliamentary Questions 77, 78 and 79 of 5 November 1987; if not, whether provision for such sums has been made in the Estimates Volume; and if so, the amounts provided in each case and the Votes in which they are shown.

I assume that the Deputy's query relates to whether the special arrangements for meeting the cost of lump sums payable under the voluntary redundancy package will include (a) retirement lump sums, (b) short service gratuities, (c) entitlements under the Redundancy Payments Acts and (d) additional severance gratuities. I can confirm that the cost of (a), (b) and (d) will be covered by the special arrangements.

The redundancy fund will cover a portion of the entitlements under the Redundancy Payments Acts and the balance representing the employer's liability will be covered by the special arrangements.

No provision has been made in the Abridged 1988 Estimates Volume for these payments.
