Written Answers. - Castleisland (Kerry) Coursing Meeting.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will give details of the report of the officer of the Forestry and Wildlife Service who monitored the Castleisland coursing meeting, County Kerry on 25-26 October 1987; if the report indicated any malpractices at the meeting or any other matters of concern to him; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The hare coursing meeting at Castleisland on 25 and 26 october 1987 was attended by a wildlife ranger from the Wildlife Service. A total of 19 hares were killed at the meeting. The ranger's report confirmed that the provisions of the Wildlife Act were complied with.

Under Section 26 of the Wildlife Act, 1987 licences may be granted on an application by any coursing club which is affiliated to the Irish Coursing Club to hold coursing matches on days specified in any year for which such licences are issued. The coursing meeting in question was held by a licensed coursing club.
