Vol. 375 No. 5

Written Answers. - Trading House Licensing.

30.

(Limerick East) asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce when he will license trading houses as envisaged in the Finance Act 1987; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The licensing of special trading houses will commence as soon as possible after approval of the scheme has been obtained from the EC Commission.

As is usual with all such schemes, a member state is required to formally submit details of its proposal to the EC Commission which examines the scheme in terms of its compatibility with our obligations under the Treaty of Rome.

The Commission is currently considering the special trading house scheme and I expect to be advised of the outcome shortly.
