Vol. 375 No. 5

Written Answers. - Petrol Price Control.

32.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the plans, if any, he has to introduce price control on petrol; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Deputy may not be aware that I reintroduced price control at wholesale level for petrol and autodiesel on 17 July 1987. At that time petrol was reduced by 10p per gallon followed by a further reduction of 4p on 8 October. Autodiesel was reduced by 5p in July. Prices increased slightly on 17 November, petrol by 1.3p per gallon and authodiesel by 3p per gallon. Despite this petrol prices still remain approximately 12½p per gallon cheaper than in June, i.e. prior to the reintroduction of control.
