Vol. 375 No. 5

Written Answers. - Health Levy Liability.

54.

asked the Minister for Finance in view of the facts of a case (details supplied) in Dublin 10, if the person concerned is liable to pay the bill for health levies issued to her; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the person concerned is liable to pay the amount in question, which was demanded from her by the Collector-General in September 1987. The amount demanded is in respect of the person's own liability for health contributions. It includes an estimated amount for the year 1986-87, which may be altered when information requested from the person by the Inspector of Taxes is supplied, but which is nevertheless payable pending such possible alteration.

Health contributions are charged on husband and wife separately. A separate demand in respect of the person's late husband's liability was issued in March 1987 but the amount of this needs to be revised. The Inspector of Taxes has requested information to enable him to make the revision.
