Vol. 375 No. 5

Written Answers. - Civil Service Vacancies.

58.

asked the Minister for Finance (a) the number of vacancies in the Civil Service which have been filled or recommended by the Top Level Appointments Committee without the vacancy for a representative from the private sector being filled and (b) the date on which the last person who served in that capacity resigned.

There has been only one post filled by the Top Level Appointments Committee without the vacancy for a representative from the private sector being filled.

Following consideration by the Government of the suggestion in report No. 13 of the Public Service Advisory Council that the council be "rested", it was decided at the beginning of September 1987 not to replace the members of the council (including the chairman) whose periods of appointment were completed. As a result the vacancy arose on the Top Level Appointments Committee and the Government decided that it should be filled by a representative of the private sector chosen by the Taoiseach, after consultation with the Minister for Finance for such a period as the Taoiseach might determine. No appointment has yet been made.
