Written Answers. - Local Authority Services.

22.

asked the Minister for the Environment if, in the light of the huge reduction in the financial allocation to local authorities, he will indicate the way in which the Government expect the local authorities to maintain existing levels of services to the public; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The level of Exchequer subvention of local authority current spending next year was determined having regard to the overall availability of revenue to local authorities. The rates support grant reduction announced for the year amounts to less than 3 per cent of the estimated revenue accuring to local authorities in 1987.
