Vol. 375 No. 8

Written Answers. - Housing Grant Inspectors.

52.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of housing grant inspectors who have been made redundant; the number now employed; and the effect which this has had on the time taken to carry out inspections and to make payments of grants.

None of the permanent inspectors has been made redundant; 54 continue to be employed. The reduction in the level of inspections consequent on the termination of the house improvement grants scheme in March last has been such that only two of the 70 temporary inspectors specially recruited continue to be employed on grant work. The cessation of their employment has had no adverse effect on the carrying out of inspections or the payment of grants.
