5,315 local authority houses were started in 1985 and in 1986 the number was 2,599. While final figures are not yet available for 1987 it is expected that there will have been about 1,000 new starts during the year. In relation to 1988, I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 47 on 21 October in which I outlined the procedures involved in determining and allocating the funds for new capital projects in 1988.
