Vol. 375 No. 8

Written Answers. - Dublin Millennium.

80.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will examine the feasibility of inviting design submissions with a view to introducing a £1 gold coin next year to commemorate the millennium of Dublin city.

The Currency and Central Bank Acts preclude the issue of a £1 gold coin. Furthermore the technical requirements and time scale involved in the design, production and marketing of gold coins would effectively rule out the possibility of a successful issue next year.
