Vol. 375 No. 8

Written Answers. - Water-Bus Licence.

82.

asked the Minister for Finance the circumstances that led to the granting of a licence for the waterbus on Lough Leane, Killarney, County Kerry in contravention of a previous injunction granted to the Office of Public Works to stop such an operation; if he will make a statement regarding his intention in relation to such an operation for 1987-88; and if any report has been sought on the environmental impact of the operation of such an activity on the lake.

The circumstances relating to the granting of a licence for the water bus on Lough Leane were outlined in my reply to questions on 17 June 1987. Reports have been received on the possible environmental impact of the water bus and these are being considered at the moment. A decision has yet to be made on whether a water bus will be allowed on Lough Leane after the current licence expires on 30 April 1988. If a water bus is to be allowed to operate, tenders will be invited in accordance with normal procedures.
