Vol. 376 No. 1

Written Answers - Aquaculture Licence.

127.

asked the Minister for the Marine if his attention has been drawn to the fact that an application for an aquaculture licence in respect of Union Hall, County Cork, has been with his Department for a very lengthy period and if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the salmon farm project involving the Electricity Supply Board and the Union Hall Fishermen's Co-op with a job potential of 23 may not now proceed because of delays in issuing said licence; and if he will make the necessary designation order under section 54 of the Fisheries Act, 1980, and issue the necessary licence to enable the project to get under way.

I am aware of the application in question and became aware in October 1987 of the Electricity Supply Board's association with the applicant.

I am preparing a programme under which a number of additional areas in County Cork would be proposed for designation so that aquaculture development can be expedited there. I will consider including Glandore in this programme.

Glandore Harbour has not yet been designated for aquaculture purposes and accordingly an aquaculture licence cannot be issued at present.
