The Government decided on 6 March 1984 to make £14 million available to OIE to clear certain debts and to cover a rationalisation and refurbishment programme to be undertaken by a new board to be appointed by the Minister for Labour to whom responsibility for the company was transferred at the same time. £9.85 million of this was paid to the company prior to it being transferred to my Department. An additional £2.733 million was provided by the Government in 1986 to enable the company to redeem a sterling loan which was taken out in 1971 and was not relevant to the revised company structure. The information required by the Deputy covering the period for which the Minister for Labour has been responsible for the company is as follows:
