Vol. 376 No. 1

Written Answers - Primary Health Care System.

190.

asked the Minister for Health his views on the need to develop a comprehensive and multidisciplinary primary health care system if he will outline the measures taken to bring this about; and the funding which is allocated for this purpose in the 1988 Estimates.

I am in favour of the development of health services generally on the lines set out in the recently published consultative document "Health, the Wider Dimensions" which places particular emphasis on health promotion as a means of achieving good health. The health boards and other health agencies will be familiar with the policies outlined in this document, following the recent intensive seminar which took place in Beaumont Hospital, and it will be a matter for them, where appropriate, to make financial provisions from within their 1988 allocations for the implementation of these policies.
