Vol. 376 No. 1

Written Answers - Health Boards.

29.

asked the Minister for Health if the chief executive officer of the Midland Health Board has been asked to run his own as well as the neighbouring Mid-Western Health Board, if this is the first step in his programme to reduce the number of health boards; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am considering the situation which has arisen as a result of the fact that the Local Appointments Commission were unable to recommend a suitable candidate for appointment to the office of CEO Mid-Western Health Board and I will make a statement on the matter at the appropriate time. In the meantime the outgoing CEO continues to hold office.

This issue has no bearing whatsoever on the number of health boards on which I would have thought I have made position abundantly clear.
