Vol. 376 No. 1

Written Answers - Risley Remand Centre.

60.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will arrange for a representative from the Irish Embassy in London to visit a person (details supplied) in Risley remand centre to ascertain the basis for the complaints she is making regarding the amount of exercise time given to her; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It is intended that an officer of the embassy will visit the person concerned in the near future. I will communicate directly with the Deputy as soon as the visit takes place.

61.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a person (details supplied) in Risley remand centre is not permitted to attend Mass on Sundays; if he will request the British authorities to allow her to attend Mass; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I understand from the British Authorities that the person concerned is in category A remand custody. As such she is entitled to hear Mass though this has to take place in her cell.
