An allocation of £4 million has recently been made to my Department from the surplus proceeds of the national lottery for the operation of a capital grant scheme in support of local initiative for the provision of community recreational facilities.
Allocations under this scheme — the capital grant scheme for the provision of recreational facilities — will be considered in accordance with set criteria. Initiatives of a joint community and school nature, which conform to the established terms and conditions of grant-aid, will be eligible for consideration in this connection.
Assistance under the scheme will not be applicable where the proposed recreational facility may be regarded as being exclusively for school purposes.
