Vol. 376 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Administrative Principals.

85.

asked the Minister for Education if the recent change in the operation of circular 20/87 means that no administrative principal shall be forced back into the classroom at primary level until the Primary Curriculum Review Committee has completed its work.

The new schedules for the appointment and retention of staff in national schools announced in circular 20/87 will no longer provide specifically for non-teaching principals. However, as a general rule it will be a matter for decision by school management at local level as to whether an individual principal should continue to work in a non-teaching capacity, taking into account the class sizes and the particular needs of the school. It is not intended that such decisons would be delayed until the Primary Curriculum Review Committee has completed its work.
