Vol. 376 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Disposal of Fort Camden, Cork.

9.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will sanction the transfer of Fort Camden in Cork harbour to Cork County Council due to its historical nature as it would be a major tourist attraction in the area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

(Limerick West): No decision has yet been taken as to the manner of disposal of Fort Camden which is now surplus to my Department's requirements. Cork County Council wrote to my Department recently to express its interest in the preservation and development of the fort and full consideration will be given to any firm proposal in the matter submitted by the council. In that regard a recent request from Bord Fáilte for permission to undertake an architectural plan and feasibility study of the fort has been approved by my Department.
