Vol. 376 No. 2

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefit.

41.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny had his disability benefit disallowed on 17 September; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that he is awaiting an operation on his back in the Richmond hospital, and was called to the hospital on 13 November; if he will restore his disability benefit; and if he will pay him the arrears due to him since 17 September.

The person concerned was paid disability benefit to 10 September 1987 after which date benefit was disallowed following an examination by a medical referee who expressed the opinion that he was capable of work. He appealed against the disallowance and on 26 November 1987 was examined by a different medical referee who considered him to be incapable of work from 11 September 1987. Payment of disability benefit resumed from 30 November 1987. Arrears of benefit, less supplementary welfare allowance paid during the period of the appeal, will issue shortly.
