Vol. 376 No. 3

Written Answers. - Appointment of New Principal.

36.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the widespread public disquiet at the circumstances of the recent appointment of a new principal to Kanturk vocational school, County Cork; if she will hold an investigation into the circumstances of the appointment; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I am not aware of any public disquiet in this case as referred to by the Deputy.

I would like to explain that the appointment of vocational teachers is a matter for the individual vocational education committees. My function is one of sanction only provided the appointment is found to be in order in all respects.

The County Cork Vocational Education Committee have submitted a proposal in relation to this appointment. This proposal is being processed by my Department at present.
