Vol. 376 No. 3

Written Answers. - Dublin Schools Standards.

40.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the impact of her Department's Circular 20/87 in relation to class conditions at the following schools: Scoil Iosagain, Kilbarrack, Dublin 13, St. Fintans, national school, Sutton, Dublin 13, Scoil Mhuire, Howth, County Dublin, St. Francis Parish national school, Priorswood, Dublin 5; the steps she intends to take to ensure that educational standards at these schools do not suffer due to the circular; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The position of national schools where staffing may be affected under the new schedule of averages will not be determined until the school returns of averages for the quarter ended 31 December 1987 are available.

I recently announced the establishment of a Primary Quota Review Committee, which will examine cases where difficulties may arise in certain schools following the issue of Circular 20/87. I have also announced that remedial posts, special concessionary posts in disadvantaged areas, and posts in special education will not be affected, and that other special arrangements will enable teachers who do not have panel rights to be retained in their posts until the end of the school-year.
