Vol. 376 No. 3

Written Answers. - Primary Curriculum Review Committee.

42.

asked the Minister for Education if she sees any function for the new Primary Curriculum Review Committee without the participation of primary teachers; if the committee has met; and if so, how often and on what dates.

It is a matter of regret to me that the Irish National Teachers' Organisation has withdrawn from participation in the Primary Curriculum Review Body.

Nevertheless, it is my intention that the review body would continue with its work and furnish its report to me in due course. In addition to the representatives of the Irish National Teachers' Organisation, the review body includes representatives from other educational interests and also persons nominated by myself for the qualifications they bring to the task, together with professional advisers from my Department. I am confident that there is sufficient breadth of knowledge and experience among the membership of this review body to accomplish its task with distinction.

I understand that, to date, the review body has met twice, on 19 October and 16 November 1987.
