Vol. 376 No. 5

Written Answers. - Carysfort (Dublin) College.

200.

asked the Minister for Education in view of the facts that the phasing out of the pre-service primary teacher training from Carysfort College, County Dublin was first announced in February 1986 by the then Minister for Education, Gemma Hussey, TD; that the present Minister was sharply critical of this announcement at the time; that another Minister for Education, Patrick Cooney, TD, promised a future for the staff and the college; that the present Minister has allegedly been endeavouring to follow through these promises since February 1987; that one is now virtually half-way through the last academic year of Carysfort's present existence; that the staff and union concerned have expressed their dismay that no concrete proposals for deployment of the staff have been produced to date; if she will outline the arrangements which have been made to the latter end.

I am at present considering appropriate arrangements for the staff of the college. Pending completion of consideration of the matter I am not prepared to make any further statement in relation to it.
