205.

asked the Minister for Education which primary schools in north County Dublin would lose teachers by virtue of the implementation of Circular 20/87; and the number of teachers involved, together with the resultant average class size, excluding remedial, special or other ex-quota teachers, in each school.

206.

asked the Minister for Education whether any primary school in north County Dublin will be unaffected by the provisions of Circular 20/87, based on current enrolments; and if so, which schools.

216.

asked the Minister for Education, based on the returns of averages for the four quarters ending on 30 September 1987, the number of teachers at present in each primary school in North County Dublin who would be placed on the panel by virtue of implementation of the revised pupil-teacher ratio set out in Circular 20/87.

220.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the widespread alarm among teachers and schools who have not any communication from her Department to tell them that Circular 20/87 does not apply from January 1988 and therefore are in confusion about their status; if she will confirm to them in writing, on an individual basis, the change she announced in her statement of 26 November; and when she will do this.

221.

asked the Minister for Education if she will confirm that the primary school pupil-teacher ratio will remain unchanged until June 1988.

222.

asked the Minister for Education if any teachers in primary schools in County Wicklow will lose their jobs or be placed on the panel in January as a result of Circular 20/87.

223.

asked the Minister for Education if she will immediately write to all primary schools in County Wicklow telling them that no teacher will be placed on the panel, and that no school in County Wicklow will be affected in any way before June 1988 by Circular 20/87, in accordance with her statement of 26 November 1987.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 205, 206, 216, 220, 221, 222 and 223 together.

I have already announced that in order to give the primary quota review committee the opportunity to carry out their task, no changes under Circular 20/87 will take place in the staffing of primary schools before the end of June 1988. A circular to this effect is issuing from my Department to all national schools.

207.

asked the Minister for Education whether, in view of the deferral of the possible implementation of Circular 20/87, she now intends to sanction additional teaching posts in those primary schools which have attained the necessary enrolment for the required periods, and if she will list those schools which have met those requirements but have not yet had the additional posts sanctioned.

I have recently announced that schools which in the ordinary course of events would be entitled to make appointments under normal schedules may continue to do so and all applications received from school management will be dealt with on that basis.
