asked the Minister for Education if she will indicate the extent of funds made available from the national lottery to scouting; if she will give a breakdown in each case as to how the allocations are made; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.
My Department support the programmes and activities of voluntary youth organisations through the youth service grant scheme. In 1987, 30 organisations were allocated grants totalling £2,759,500 under the scheme. These included three scouting bodies who were assisted as follows:
£ |
|
Catholic Boy Scouts of Ireland |
191,170 |
Scout Association of Ireland |
146,000 |
Federation of Irish Scout Associations |
9,000 |
Approximately 31 per cent of the total sum allocated to voluntary youth organisations was provided from the surplus proceeds of the national lottery.
In 1988 grant assistance to voluntary youth organisations will come entirely from the proceeds of the national lottery and will be decided subject to the conditions of the youth service grant scheme.
