Vol. 376 No. 5

Written Answers. - County Cavan School Improvements.

219.

asked the Minister for Education when work will commence on improvements to a school (details supplied) in County Cavan having regard to the small, overcrowded and draughty conditions, the leaking roof and outdoor toilets; if her attention has been drawn to the situation; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

My information is that the school authorities have been in touch with representatives of the Office of Public Works with a view to having an assessment made of the improvements required at the school referred to, and are in fact in the process of seeking tenders for necessary works. When received the tenders would be forwarded to my Department with a recommendation from the Office of Public Works as to what level of grant should be offered. In view of the Deputy's interest I am asking that the matter be dealt with as quickly as possible.
