Vol. 376 No. 5

Written Answers. - Diplomatic Relations with Cuba.

19.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if, in view of the potential that exists for greatly increased commercial and cultural relations between this country and Cuba, the Government will consider the establishment of diplomatic relations with Cuba; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Ireland's network of diplomatic relations is small and must remain so for the foreseeable future given our limited financial and personnel resources. Possibilities for its extension are examined from time to time in the light of our national and international interests and the availability of the necessary resources. There are no plans to establish diplomatic relations with Cuba at the present time.
