Vol. 376 No. 5

Written Answers. - Passport Facilities.

48.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if the reference in a document (details supplied) to obtaining passport facilities without the permission of both parents is accurate; and, if so, if this is procedurally correct.

As regards the reference to the granting of passport facilities to the person's son I wish to explain that the Circuit Court at Castlebar ordered on 15 May 1986 that the Department of Foreign Affairs issue a passport to this minor, without "recourse to, notice to, or consent of" the person in question, to enable the minor to travel to Canada for the period 28 June to 29 August 1986. The Department of Foreign Affairs complied with this court order by issuing a passport to the minor, restricted in time to the period specified in the order.

I would confirm that this was procedurally correct.
