Vol. 376 No. 5

Written Answers. - General Child Welfare.

113.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will make a statement regarding the action which Ireland is taking arising out of reports (details supplied) at Council of Europe level on an international trade, in which children are used for prostitution, pornography and slavery; the action, if any, Ireland proposes to take to assist in this campaign.

Most of the issues raised in the report referred to are in the area of general child welfare and would be principally a matter for the Minister for Health. In so far as the criminal justice area is concerned I can assure the Deputy that every assistance will be given by my Department to any work which may be undertaken by the Council of Europe on foot of the report.
